Rev. Robert Lloyd Rogers, Sr., 69, of 8 Spring Drive, Asheville, died Saturday, December 22, 2007, at his residence. Rev. Rogers was born in Buncombe Co. and was a son of the late Lloyd Herman and Mary Lou Lunsford Rogers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Vivian Creasman Rogers, who died on May 26, 2007. Rev. Rogers was ordained at Woodland Terrace Baptist Church, and was also a former pastor of State Street Baptist Church. He was also a charter member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was retired from the Asheville Housing Authority. Rev. Rogers is survived by his daughters, Jacqueline Ray and husband Michael, of Asheville; Mary Cody, of Mobile, AL; Rose Shetley and husband Ricky of Leicester; and Revonda Hill and husband Chris, of Flag Pond, TN; son, Robert Lloyd Rogers, Jr., and wife Keawaunee, of Candler; brother, Wes Rogers, of Texas; 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. with the Rev. Ray Roberts officiating. Interment will follow at Green Hills Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

  5. Sometimes we think our Family will be there forever…when Vivian passed, it was like Aunt Irene leaving again. R.L. and Vivian were always there when I was growing up and I shall always be grateful for them. May God Bless each and every one of you and help you keep all the happy memories forever. You will be in my thoughts and prayers during this time.
