Robert Macon Phillips

July 23, 1950 ~ September 3, 1999
A native of Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of Robert Henry and Mary Jane Mitchell Phillips of Greensboro, NC. He was employed with South Western Freight a division of Burlington and was a Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He attended Hargrave Military Academy and Oak Ridge Military Academy. He was a life long member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Greensboro.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Charlene Jackson Phillips and mother-in-law, Magnolia M. Jackson of Fletcher; daughter, Amber Marie Phillips of Leicester; son Walter Henson of the home and maternal grandfather Frederick Macon Mitchell of Greensboro.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Reverend Mary C. McNeal officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 pm Monday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
