Roger Grindstaff, 77, of Arden, passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023 at Asheville VA Medical Center, Asheville.
Born in Mitchell County, NC, he was the husband of Donnie Rebecca (Corn) Grindstaff, to whom he was married 54 years. He was the son of the late Samuel Jackson Grindstaff and his precious mother Anna Lucille (Buchanan) Grindstaff.
Roger was a member of Skyland Baptist Church, Arden, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He retired from Wilson Art after many years of employment.
A disabled Army veteran of the Vietnam Era, he fought with the 25th Infantry and was awarded the Purple Heart after being wounded.
Roger was a HAM Radio operator and his handle was KI4FPC.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Rodney Grindstaff and Daniel Grindstaff; one brother, Samuel Grindstaff (Annie); one sister, Sheril Lyda (Howard); and his beloved little dog, Heidi Gail.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Skyland Baptist Church with Revs. Robert Ponder and Mike Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 PM on Friday, February 10, 2023 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Scott Ramsey, Jerry Massey, Kim Burgess, Danny Brown, Tim Brackett, and Everette Jamerson. The deacons of Skyland Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Skyland Baptist Church Care Ministry.

Mr. Grindstaff’s friendly and gregarious welcome to my first radio club meeting made such an impression on me that I remember him as a warm, friendly, and community minded person. Roger is a great Friend and I assume he is the same with everyone he meets. I always enjoyed our conversations, Roger could enlighten me on several subjects. I will miss those. I look forward to seeing him again.
Donnie Rodney and Danny I am so heart broken for your loss . Rodger was my best friend We trucked many thousands of miles together. When trouble came, we took care of each other. I have no doubt that I will meet Rodger again .

kindness and love was genuine. Donnie, Rodney and Danny how lucky you were to
