Candler, NC
Ronald Howard "Ron" Plemmons, Sr., 68, passed away Friday, December 16, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family following a long and hard fought battle with cancer.
Ron was a lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Howard Plemmons and Cornelia Green Plemmons as well as a granddaughter, Tessia Rayann Plemmons.
He is survived by a daughter, Renae Plemmons McIntosh (Ronnie), a son, Ron Plemmons, Jr. (Connie); grandsons Trent and Tanner Weatherman; granddaughter, Madison Norton, and longtime girlfriend, Anne Elliott of the home. He is also survived by his four younger brothers, Randy (Ann), Rick (Joann), Roger (Lisa) and Rusty (Angela), many nieces and nephews and lots of close friends and neighbors.
After graduating Enka High School, he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a specialist in the 4th Infantry Division, US Army.
He retired from Sears after 24 years and went into business for himself hauling gravel and doing backhoe work until he was no longer physically able.
He was a dedicated SERV. Unit volunteer with the Buncombe County Sheriff Dept. and enjoyed visiting nursing home patients and other tasks to help his community.
He enjoyed clogging for many years with the Green Valley Cloggers. He also enjoyed entering his yellow Mustang in car shows and riding around Candler with his mustache in the wind. Otherwise, on "rare occasions" he could be spotted at Boone's Corner.
He was a hard worker who could always be counted on by friends and family alike, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Dennis Thurman and Dalton Ramsey officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Hice Hill Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
The family would like to give special and sincere thanks to WNC Cancer Care, Mission Health, 10th floor Oncology, CarePartners Hospice, VA Medical Center, Bayada Health Care, and all the many friends, family and neighbors for their help and support.

I have known most of the Plemmons family since I was a little girl. I got to know Ron when he worked with my mother at Sears. He was so easy to talk to and of course had that Plemmons sense of humour. He will be missed and I pray the family finds comfort during this time. I went to school with Ronnie, and having served 23 years with the Sheriff’s Department here, I knew him from there as well. RIP, my friend..
This spring Ronnie and i took a walk around the pond. We talked about his fish in there. He told me about how the property looked when he was a kid.
