Roy Edgar Houston, Sr., 89, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the Maggie Valley Nursing & Rehab Center, Maggie Valley, NC. Mr. Houston was born May 23, 1923, in Baldwyn, MS, and was a son of the late Jodie and Naomi Smith Houston. He was married to Nona Wayne Houston, who died October 24, 2011. He was a veteran of WW II and was retired from Delta Mfg. Co. (formerly Rockwell), and he was a member of New Morgan Hill Baptist Church, Candler. He was a former active member of East Heights Baptist Church, Tupelo, where he served on many committees as well as being a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He is survived by his son, the Rev. Roy Houston and wife, Dana; granddaughters, Lisa Holland and husband, Randy, and Lori Halyburton and husband, Chad; and great-grandchildren, Levi and Caroline Holland. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue, Asheville. Graveside services under the direction of W.E. Pegues Funeral Home, will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Lee Memorial Park, Tupelo, MS. Memorials may be made to the patient activity fund of the Maggie Valley Nursing Home, 75 Fisher Loop Road, Maggie Valley, NC 28751.
