Roy Edward McAbee, 79, passed away Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Mission Hospital following a brief illness.
Roy was born July 26, 1944, in Henderson County to the late Jesse and Geneva Bradley McAbee. He was a graduate of Edneyville High School and proudly served in the US Navy from 1962-1966. He was retired as a draftsman with American Enka Corp.
Roy loved life, spending time with friends and helping people, giving of his time and talents – always putting others first. He once said that his joy was to help someone else.
A graveside gathering with military honors will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at New Morgan Hill Cemetery.

I knew you since 1968 as a friend where we both worked. We kept in touch sporadically over the years between then and now. I moved away from WNC last year not long before you left us. There would have been no one to let me know of your passing, but I should have known something amiss when you didn’t call on my birthday and call me ‘kid.’ I will miss knowing you are still out there laughing and having a beer at your favorite friendly bar. I will remember you as a good friend.
