Roy Lee Pounders

Mr. Pounders was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Arthur Lee and Mary Johnson Pounders.  He was retired from Square D and was a 35 year veteran with the West Buncombe Volunteer Fire Dept, currently holding the rank of Deputy Chief.  He was also a long-time member of the Buncombe County Sheriff Department auxiliary.

He is survived by an aunt, Marie Blankenship, and two uncles, John Johnson and Royce Johnson.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Sunday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Revs. Jackie Collins and Mike Freeman officiating.  Burial will be in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to the Fireman's Fund, c/o West Buncombe Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 449, Asheville, NC 28802.

Asheville area fire departments will provide honor guards for the visitation and funeral.
