Ruby Lee Baldwin Whitaker, 94, of Asheville, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020.

A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late George and Dessie Hare Baldwin. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Roland Edgar Whitaker, who passed away in 2016; one son, David E. Whitaker and two brothers, Richard Baldwin and George H. Baldwin Jr.

Ruby worked in the accounting department at Gerber for more than 20 years. She was a member of Yellow Hill Baptist Church in Cherokee, where her husband Roland served as Pastor for 23 years. She will be forever cherished and remembered as a loving mother and Mamaw to her family.

Ruby is survived by two daughters, Wanda Penland and Teresa Hudson; four grandchildren, Seth Whitaker, Rebecca Penland, Kevin Hudson and Courtney Hudson Smith; five great-grandchildren and one sister, Genell Ertzberger.

A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2020 at Calvary Churchyard with Chaplain Wilson Bishop officiating.

Flowers are appreciated, but for those who choose, memorial donations may be made in Ruby’s name to Gideons International (www.gideons.org or 866-382-4253.

  1. So sorry to hear of Ruby’s passing. Some of the best time of my youth was spent with Roland and Ruby, Wanda, David, and Teresa Ann. There has always been a special place in my heart for them. Praying for comfort for her family.
