Ruby Estelle Redmon Faulkner, 78, of 4 Deer Cove Lane, Arden, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2012, after a brief but courageous battle with colon cancer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, P.F. and Stella Bowlin Redmon as well as brothers Preston, Dean, and Arthur Redmon, sister Oneva Redmon Parker, and her first born daughter Deborah Ann Faulkner.
Mrs. Faulkner was born on Halloween of 1933 on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, where her father was a dairy farmer. After high school she attended Blanton's Business College, and at 19 began employment for Nabisco Brands, until retiring in 1992.
In 1957, she married Bruce Faulkner, who will celebrate his 78th birthday on Tues., Feb. 14th, 2012, and celebrated 54 years of marriage on November 16, 2011. She loved to travel, and together during their marriage they traveled extensively to the 48 contiguous states and also to British Colombia and Nova Scotia, Canada.
Ruby loved the Lord with all her heart and made it a daily practice to awaken at 4:30 am each morning for devotions, which she continued up until Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Darlene Penland and husband David; special son Colin Thornley; and grandson Ryan Landon.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 pm Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Bent Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Tommy Bridges, Rev. Dr. Ian Walker, and Rev. Dr. David Desforge officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Her family will receive friends beginning at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the church.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you for the tireless dedication to mom's comfort to: Dr. Bill Snoddy and the staff at Asheville Family Medical; Dr. Thomas Bond, Dr. Anita Deshpande and staff at Cancer Care Center of NC; Four Seasons Hospice, and the staff and doctors of the Elizabeth House; her "sisters" Linda Stewart, Marjorie Stevens, Peggy Drake, and Mary Duck; and a special thanks also to Kim Cox, Dawn Crowley, Larry Landon, and Kim Henderson for kindness and support during moms illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201-0001, and/or to Bent Creek Baptist Church, 1554 Brevard Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.

Darlene, it was such a blessing to get to know your mother. We had a few laughs near the end. She loved you dearly and expressed that to me. What an awesome expression of love you showed not only your mother but also to your father during this difficult time, always thinking of them before you did yourself. Darlene so sorry for your loss. Ruby holds a special place in my heart. Ruby always let her light shine for the lord and love. I will cherish the memories of her teaching me in sunday school, taking me to the movies, going to her house, always seeing laughter and love in Ruby. You & Bruce will be in my thoughts and prayers.
