Russell Dewayne Lyda, 55, of Salisbury, NC, died Friday, December 21, 2018, in Winston-Salem.
Born in Buncombe County to the late Charlie and Evelyn Owens Lyda, he was a truck driver.
Survivors include two brothers, Randy Lyda (Sandra) of Tequesta, FL, and Richard Lyda (Suzanne) of Purcellville, VA; four cousins, Angel Ruiz, Wendy Whitaker, Shannon Beeby and Tate Lyda; and special friend, Regina Starnes.
A celebration of Rusty's life will be held Saturday, January 5 at 4:00 p.m. in the Tunnel Road Chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Rev. Terry Duckworth will officiate.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Swannanoa Fire and Rescue, 103 S. Ave., Swannanoa, NC, 28778.

Rusty was a very good friend, actually more like a brother to me. I have so many good memories from the fire department with him. We had lost touch over the years, but I never forgot him or our friendship. Randy, I have never forgotten our friendship either.
So sorry to hear of his passing. We had many memories over the years.
