Russell Douglas Rymer, of 1001 Timber Lane, Asheville, died Tuesday, October 9, 2001, at his home surrounded by his wife and friends following an extended illness.

Mr. Rymer was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Allan Rymer and the late Vernie Bridges Rymer Reemes. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Evans Rymer. He attended UNC-A and NC State University and was a Navy veteran of WW II. He was retired after 35 years as an engineer with Southern Bell.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Grove Park Country Club. He was also past-president of the Hartwell Villas Marina in Anderson, SC and served on the Board of Directors of the Hartwell Villas Association. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Weaverville.

He is survived by his wife, Bea Fox Rymer.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Dillon officiating. Burial will be at Ashelawn Gardens.

His family will receive friends from 7 - 9 pm Wednesday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, or to the Senior Companion Program of the Alzheimer’s Association, 3 Louisiana Avenue, Asheville, NC 2886.

Mr. Rymer’s family expresses appreciation to Ruby Angel, a special caregiver and Alzheimer’s volunteer whom Russell loved very deeply, and they also thank all the Hospice personnel for their many kindnesses.
