Ruth Allene Glaettli Russell Cobb, 90, of Pylesville, MD, passed away on August 27, 2023. She was a resident of Pylesville for 60 years and coauthored “The History of Pylesville”.
Ruth achieved her bachelors degree from Mary Washington College. She was an active member of Highland Presbyterian Church, Madonna AARP, Homemakers of Street, Quilting on the Line, Harford Community Council, an avid supporter and volunteer with Stepping Stone Museum, 4-H, and
Tuesday Night Girls. Ruth was nominated and approved by the Cultural Arts Board as a Harford Living Treasure in 2008. The Maryland General Assembly recognized her for outstanding volunteerism as one of Harford County’s 2014 Most Beautiful People. Harford County Maryland awarded Ruth with a Certificate of Recognition for “Harford’s Most Beautiful Person”in 2017.
She was extremely talented in many of the traditional skills, such as quilting, gardening, wool rug braiding, and chair caning. She taught home economics, wreath making, and floral design in Harford County public schools and at Harford Community College. She remained active in the community through her church, volunteering at multiple senior centers, and her involvement in community affairs. She enjoyed traveling throughout the 50 states and Europe with her grandchildren and friends. Ruth with her husband, Robert, operated a family nursery for many years at Cobb’s Knob. Ruth made her community a better place with her knowledge, patience, and warm personality.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Alan Cobb; and a brother William Russell.
She is survived by her sister; Barbara Trenis of Catlett, VA; daughter; Laura Winter of Phoenix, AZ; son; Alan Cobb (Judy) of Cedar Hill, TN; and daughter Brenda Schmidt (Darrin) of Downers Grove, IL; 6 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
A public Celebration of Life will be March 23, 2024 at Highland Presbyterian Church in Street, MD. This will be planned for a time when we can ensure all of her family and friends have the opportunity to attend. She wanted this to be a celebration and the family hopes that you will come and reminisce with those who have meant so much to her over the years.
In lieu of flowers if you would like, the family requests donations be made in her name to Highland Presbyterian Church in Street, MD.

Ruth was a loved and cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. From her love for travel to her skills in homemaking, she leaves her memory and impact on all who knew her.
