Ruth Hartsell Ownbey, 85, formerly of Mildred Avenue, Asheville, died Thursday, February 13, 2003, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Center.
Mrs. Ownbey was born in Spartanburg, SC, and was a daughter of the late James William and Annie Mae Johnson Hartsell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Robert Ownbey who died in 1986, and by a son, Ralph Gerald (Jerry) Ownbey in 1989. She was a member of West Asheville Baptist Church.
Surviving are a son, Paul Ownbey and his wife Sandra of Asheville; a sister, Violet Pinkerton of Fairview; a brother, Robert William Hartsell of Rockford, MI; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Jimmy and Jackie and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 3:30 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Lewis officiating. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

I am so sorry for your loss. Ruth was so special to all who knew her. Her courage and strength touched all of us at Pisgah Manor. Her love for her family was always evident. All I had to do was mention Paul, Sandy or the grandkids and her eyes would sparkle. I pray you find peace in knowing that Ruth is in Heaven now with a perfect new body. I will always be here if you ever need me.
