Asheville - SaDelle” Syd” Uzzell, 93, of the Deerfield Retirement Community, died Sunday, August 25, 2002.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Jeanette Holmes Harry and wife of the late Thomas A. “Bootie” Uzzell, Jr., who died in 1985.
Mrs. Uzzell was formerly active with the American Red Cross, the Junior League of Asheville, the Children’s Welfare League, the Memorial Mission Hospital Auxiliary and the Alzheimer’s Association. She was a faithful member of St. Giles Chapel at Deerfield.
She is survived by two daughters, Jeanette Uzzell Pease, and her husband, Franklin S. Pease, Jr., of Chatham, Mass. and Corinne Uzzell Spencer, and her husband William C. Spencer, Jr., of Asheville; five grandchildren, Stuart Pease, III, and his wife Wendy, and their son, Robert; Laura Pease, W. Clark Spencer, avid Spencer and Jennifer Spencer; and one brother, David Harry of Grover, NC.
Graveside services will be held at 3:30 pm Tuesday at Calvary Episcopal Churchyard in Fletcher conducted by the Rev. Morgan Gardner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Giles Chapel at Deerfield, 1617 Hendersonville Road, Asheville, NC 28803 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3 Louisiana Avenue, Asheville, NC 28806.
