Sadie Reed Setzer, 92, of Candler, died Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at Pisgah Manor Nursing Center. Mrs. Setzer was born in Transylvania County near Brevard on May 3, 1910, to the late John and Ada Brown Reed. She was raised in Transylvania County and moved to Haywood County after her marriage to Howard L. Setzer, Jr. They subsequently moved to and lived most of their lives in Buncombe County on what is now Morgan Street in Candler Heights, Candler. She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away April 28, 1997. She was a member of Montmorenci United Methodist Church of Candler and was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Electa Chapter #228, Candler for more than 50 years. During that time she held every station and was Worthy Grand Matron. Mrs. Setzer is survived by her son, Howard L. Setzer, Jr. and his wife Joyce Noland Setzer, of Clifton, VA; a granddaughter, Kathy Setzer Daniel, her husband William Daniel and their children, Sarah and Christopher Daniel, all of West Palm Beach, FL; two sisters, Belle Reed of Carolina Village, Hendersonville and Mary Ellen Gray of Etowah, and a sister-in-law, Margaret Bagwell Setzer of Asheville. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday at Montmorenci United Methodist Church with the Reverend Daniel J. Lyons officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park. Her family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and request that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Montmorenci United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 610, Candler, NC 28715. The family would like to thank the staffs of Pisgah Villa and Pisgah Manor, both of whom made her final years much more pleasant than they otherwise might have been. They also would like to thank the many friends who stopped by to see her and/or called her, or otherwise supported her and kept her happy in recent years. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting the family.
