Samuel Alexander McDaniel, two year-old son of Jason and Cyndi Harrell McDaniel of 72 Dalya Road, Swannanoa, died Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at Memorial Mission Hospital. In addition to his parents, he is survived by four sisters, Gabrielle, Alexandria, Alyssa and Ashlynn McDaniel; two brothers Jordan and Joshua McDaniel; paternal grandparents, Lana and Jimmy Carter of Mooresville; paternal grandfather Delmar McDaniel of Mocksville; maternal grandparents Doug and Barbara Harrell of Bakersville; paternal great-grandmother Rebecca McDaniel of Cleveland, NC; maternal great-grandparents A.D. and Geneva Harrell of Bakersville; maternal great-grandmother Belle Buchanan of Bakersville; paternal great-grandmother Louise Hawk of Kingsport, TN; and his Godmother, Sheri Mara of Swannanoa. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at The Rock of Asheville with Pastor Burt McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Harrell Family Cemetery in Mitchell County. Pallbearers will be Greg Harrell, Tony Harrell, Doug Harrell, Justin McDaniel and Jimmy Carter. His family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue. The family extends a special loving thank-you to the nurses, doctors, Pediatrics and PICU of Memorial Mission Hospital and to his teachers, therapists and to the social workers of the Buncombe County Department of Social Services.

    I was so sad to hear about Sam. Though I never really knew him, I will never forget him. The beautiful impact his little life made on all of us here at MACFC is unmeasurable.
