Asheville- Samuel “Sam” James Craig, 88, of the Deerfield Community, passed away Sunday, November 12, 2017 at the CarePartners Solace Center following several years of declining health.
A native of Memphis, TN, Sam was born the oldest son of the late Samuel James Craig, Jr. and Bonnie Shelton Craig. He graduated from VPI in 1953 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He was employed at Northrop-Grumman Corp. for many years, specializing in flight control systems.
He is survived by his loving wife Caroline Edwards Craig of Asheville; one brother, Edward Shelton Craig, nephew Steven Craig and a niece, Barbara Sullivan, all of Atlanta, GA.
A memorial service celebrating Sam’s life will be held at a later date.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

Dear Caroline,
I was so deeply saddened to receive your card with news of Sam’s death. We didn’t realize he’d been in failing health. I hope that you are doing okay, and that your health is good. Will you let us know when the memorial service will be held? I’d really like to come for it, if possible, and I am sure my sisters would also like to. Also, if you have a contact email for Sonny, I would love to get in touch with him if I can.
