Our beloved daughter, sister, wife, and mother Sandy Rice, 56, of Fletcher North Carolina left her earthly home to go to her heavenly home on Friday, January 20, 2017.
Sandy was born on June 21st, 1960 in Asheville North Carolina to Edith and Benjamin Silver. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 35 years, Scotty Rice, daughters Sarah and Laura Rice, mother Edith Silver, sister Kim Harris, niece Brittany Grooms and honorary daughter Jennifer Elliott, as well as, a large extended family. Sandy was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin Silver and beloved pets Shaundar and Abby.
Sandy was a graduate of T.C. Roberson High School, class of 1978. She attended UNCA as well as Blue Ridge Community College, where she earned her nursing degree. Sandy was
retired from Pardee Hospital, where she was a dedicated registered nurse for many years.
Sandy was an active member and treasurer of South Asheville Baptist Church. She loved singing in the choir and was welcoming to all, never meeting a stranger.
Visitation will be on Sunday, January 22nd from 5-7 PM at South Asheville Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, January 23rd at the church, with Pastors Norris Wright and Don Penland presiding. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Asheville. Pallbearers are Max Henkell, Dwight Ward, Bobby Parker, Mark Cummings, Bryan Walker, Brent Grooms, John White, Joseph Gillis, Evan Wells, Brendon Wells, Seth Grooms, and Charles Hagler. Honorary Pallbearer is Ethan Grooms.
Flowers are accepted and appreciated or donations may be made in Sandy's name to South Asheville Baptist, 32 Le-An-Hurst Rd Asheville, NC 28803.
Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

Laura and Sarah…..I am so very sorry. This is just the worst thing you have ever had to face. I am asking the Lord Jesus to give you that Peace that passes all understanding. To give you the Comfort that only the Comforter, Jesus, can give you. I will continue to pray for your strength and wisdom in the following weeks and months. Know that I am here for both of you in any way, shape or form that you need me. Know that you both are dearly loved by all who know you.
