Sara Louise Brown Austin, 91, of Givens Estates, died Monday, September 1, 2008. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late J. Floyd and Lenora Brown. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William Austin, a son, Edsel Austin and several brothers and sisters. She was a member of Arden Presbyterian Church and had worked for Stephens Pisgah Forest Pottery, the Skyland library and was a substitute teacher at Valley Springs Elementary School and T.C. Roberson High School. She was also a columnist for the Asheville Citizen-Times and a performing member of the Asheville Community Theatre. She is survived by her son, Colin P. Austin and his wife, Georgianne, of Asheville; a daughter-in-law, Suella Austin, of Milledgeville, GA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several loving nieces and nephews. A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Green Hills Cemetery on Leicester Highway with the Reverend Ken Crabb officiating. The family requests that memorial donations be made to a charity of one's choice.

  3. Today I was thinking of Edsel. I googled his name and Sara’s obit came up. Sara and my mother, Louise Virginia Leppert Melton were best of friends. I have the blue pottery mug with the dogwood on it that Sara made for my mom. She drank her tea out of that mug every morning. I have good memories of Edsel, Colin and I swinging on the grapevines when we were little which was over 60 yrs ago. Colin, if you should read this get in touch with me.
