Sarah Ann Stevens, 79, of 384 North Turkey Creek Road, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 30, 2018, at the CarePartners Solace Center. A native of Buncombe County, Mrs. Stevens was a daughter of the late Clinton and Bessie Smith. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Smith, and a great-granddaughter Adley Gerhardt. Mrs. Stevens was a faithful member of Beulah Baptist Church where she served as church clerk and sang in the choir until her health declined. She worked many years at Feed Seed Supply. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, enjoyed Southern gospel music and was a member of the Smith Family Singers. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved her family dearly. Mrs. Stevens is survived by her husband of 61 years, Joe Stevens; two children and their spouses, Danny and Penny Stevens and Diana and Howell Pegg; four grandchildren, Shelley Stevens, Lindsey Gerhardt (Drew), Brian Pegg (Shelby) and Michael Pegg; three great-grandchildren, Jaden, Asher, and Kamden; two brothers, Ronnie Smith (Dorothy) and Rev. Bobby Smith (Sharon); three sisters, Marlene Weaver, Linda Brooks (Mack) and Ruby Wolfe (Earl); sister-in-law, Betty Smith and several nieces and nephews. A celebration service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 2, at Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Smith (brother) and the Rev. Ricky Wolfe (nephew) officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Her family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home, Patton Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813, or to Beulah Baptist Church, 373 North Turkey Creek Road, Leicester, NC 28748.
