Ruth Harris Sult, 85, celebrated her new life with our Lord on Wednesday, January 16, 2019. Ruth was born April 2, 1933 in Saltville, VA, to the late Joe and Katherine Harris. She came to Asheville on May 8, 1954, with her husband, Fred. They started their life together in a cozy log cabin where they raised four children. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Fred (1977); sister, Mary, and brother, Roy. She leaves behind two sons, Charles F. Sult (Regina), Dennis Sult (Kelly); two daughters, Katherine Hefner (Rick), Judy Sult (Mike); eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and several others who needed love and care. Ruth was known as the matriarch of her neighborhood. She had an incredible work ethic and a very generous heart. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Funeral services will be held Saturday 2:00 p.m. at Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral. She will be laid to rest at the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Crockett, VA, beside her husband. A special thank you to CarePartners Hospice and to friends and family for all of their prayers. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Zion Lutheran Church, care of Debra Cregger, 1659 Sharons Dr., Rural Retreat, VA 24368. Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.

  1. My heart aches for my best friend Kathy Hefner and her family for the loss of their Mom and the grandkids Nannie. I am happy for Mrs. Sult that she is now in her heavenly home and reunited with her husband.
