Sergeant First Class Clyde Richard Davis, US Army, Ret., 82, passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2023.

A lifelong resident of Buncombe Co., Clyde was a son of the late Jeter Richard and Dorothy Reed Davis. He was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Fred Davis.

Mr. Davis was proud to serve his country for 28 years. He served five years of active duty in the US Army, where he was stationed in Alaska and Germany. He served the remaining 23 years in the Army Reserve’s 391st Engineer Battalion. He also received his Associate’s Degree at AB-Tech Community College in Air Conditioning & Refrigeration. He retired from Rosman NASA Tracking Station, where he worked for 31 years as their Facilities Manager.

He was a faithful member of Cedar Hill Free Will Baptist Church for more than 50 years, where he also served as trustee. He was very involved with his church family and any church project, including the construction of the new Fellowship Building.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 61 years, Frankie Smith Davis; children, Connie Fields (Danny), of Asheville, Kenneth Davis (Rhonda), of Candler, and Jennie Elks (Jordan), of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Jordan Fields (Rachel), Aaron Fields, Austin Davis (Nikki Worsham), Lauren Davis (Triston Parham), and Madison Elks; great-granddaughter, Lacey Hubner; and sisters, Ruth Helms (Cliff), of Asheville, Betty Brown (Taylor), of Charlotte, NC, and Doris Miller (Bill), of Hilton Head, SC. He was also very involved with and loved all of his nieces and nephews. He loved and cherished his family.

His family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at Cedar Hill Free Will Baptist Church, 234 Johnston Blvd., Asheville, NC 28806. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Pastors Roger Boone and Bud Fish officiating. Interment with military honors will then take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

  15. Dear Frankie, Jennie, Connie, Kenneth and family, I am so sorry for your loss. I have known your family for over 35 years and come to love each of you. Clyde was a good man and so friendly to everyone. I know you all took trips together and going to the lake and you all have made beautiful memories along the way so carry those memories with you and cherish them always. This is not a good by from Clyde but you will see him again in Heaven. Love you all.

    • Thank you Leuzette. He was pretty sick in January and never really recovered. We sure do miss him!
      I’m also sorry to hear about Ronnie passing this month too. I know you are devastated.
