Sharon Lois McDonald

sharon mcdonald

October 1, 1950 ~ February 3, 2025

Born in: Asheville, North Carolina
Resided in: Arden, North Carolina

On February 3, we lost our sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, Sharon Lois McDonald, suddenly and unexpectedly. She was the daughter of the late Thomas S. and Lois Ingle McDonald. She was a 1968 graduate of T.C. Roberson High School and also a graduate of Mars Hill University. She lived in Arden.

Before her retirement, she was employed in customer relations and administrative proficiency with several firms in Western North Carolina.

In recent years, Sharon’s health declined and she was limited in mobility. This did not stop her active intellectual pursuits. She was an avid reader and studied topics from ancient Egypt to modern space exploration.

She was a lifelong member of Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church.

The author, John Irving, once wrote, “We don’t always have a choice how we get to know one another. Sometimes, people fall into our lives cleanly – as if out of the sky, or as if there were a direct flight from Heaven to Earth – the same sudden way we lose people, who once seemed they would always be a part of our lives.”

Left to cherish her memory include a brother, Gary McDonald (Judy) and two sisters, Janet McDonald (Bill) and Ila McDonald; nieces Cheryl Jones (Mike) and Cayla McDonald (Jake); and a nephew, Andrew McDonald; great nieces Emory Jones and Jade Ember Davis; and great nephew, Ethan Jones; a number of cousins; also, a close friend, Lisa Nicholson.

A memorial service will be held in Sharon’s memory on Friday, February 14 at 11:00 am at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sharon’s memory to the Avery’s Creek United Methodist Church cemetery upkeep fund.

To yesterday’s companionship and tomorrow’s reunion.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Just read Shinee’s obit. Excellent write up & good picture. It was a shock to all of us. Cathy kept us informed about her & I know Cathy will really miss her as they talked almost daily & she helped Cathy out so much when Cathy was going thru her bout with cancer. I always thought that I seemed more like Shinee when I was in my teenage rock-n-roll years growing up. I had just sent her a card & wondered if she had gotten it & had got another to send her later. Our cousins on the Ingle’s side of the family is shrinking; Vicky, Larry, Shirley & now, Shinee. Cherish your memories.

  2. Sharon was so talented. We have known her since our youth days at church. She played the piano for church. I have very fond memories of her and her family. Such a shock that she is gone. Rest in peace.

  4. Sharon and her younger sisters, all rode my school bus. Sharon would often sit behind me and we would talk and laugh during those bus rides through Avery’s Creek and Lower Glen Bridge Road. What a pretty, talented and friendly girl she was. I will always remember her friendship and the kindness she always showed to everyone. RIP Sharon…….Your friend from TCR Class of 68….Gene

  5. I was so sorry to hear of Sharon’s passing. Another one of our dear friends from Class of ’68 at TCR. Condolences to her family; may she rest in peace.

  6. Sharon and I grew up and went to church and school together! We were always friends . I will never forget the first real rock and roll concert we went to, Darlene , Sharon and I to Paul Revere and the Raiders. We had so much fun together. I will always remember the beautiful talent Sharon had for music and playing the piano at church. I went with her for pictures when she ran for the Miss Asheville Pageant. She was so beautiful in them and did win second place runner up. It was such an exciting event! Sharon was smart and very talented I will always remember to keep our memories tucked safe in my heart and mind forever. Rest In Peace.

  7. Sharon and I were Best Friends for almost 35 years. To say I will miss her is an understatement. We talked daily. We confided in each other, helped each other, went through ups and downs with each other. No one could have a better friend than I did with Sharon. I truly miss her. My heart goes out to her family. Love You and Miss You Sharon.

  8. My friend, it was such a shock to lose you. I will always hold you in my heart! You lived here for a long time and I loved you. I truly miss you and will always think of you.
