Shirley Ann Crook Guice, age 85, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on February 26, 2021. Shirley was born on July 15, 1935 in Asheville, NC. She was the youngest of seven children born to Burgin and Carrie King Crook. In addition to her parents, her siblings, Frank Crook, Hubert Crook, Lucille Rogers, Helen Maxwell, Marie Gordon and Martha Huntley all preceded her in death. Early in her life at age 2, her mother passed away and her father was remarried to Josephine Crook who raised Shirley and the other young siblings.
In 1953, Shirley married Bobby Lee Guice of Asheville and spent almost 68 years by his side in marriage. Together, they had 4 children and expanded that family with spouses, grandchildren and great grandchildren who she absolutely adored. She was always happiest when she was surrounded by family and friends. She always had room at her table for one more person!
Shirley was employed at Irene Wortham Center for 28 years working with some of the most special children who she cared for deeply. For over 55 years, Shirley was a member of Biltmore Baptist Church, now Biltmore Church and was very active in various women’s ministries and was a member of the Ladies Golden Rule Class. She attended church faithfully and worked tirelessly in the church until she became too ill to attend. Another passion she had was her volunteer work at ABCCM for many years.
Shirley is survived by her husband Bobby Lee Guice, Sr. and their four children, Bobby Lee Guice, Jr. (Joyce) of Hendersonville, David Guice (Kerry) of Brevard, Diane Hollifield (Larry) of Fletcher and Beth Adcock (Kenny) of Hayesville. She is also survived by grandchildren, Tara Hurst (Mike), Adam Guice (Sherry), Tyler Littrell (Shalom), Amy Davis, Angela Worley (Jon), Lindsey Guice Smith (Bill), Colby Guice (Meredith), Zachary Hollifield, Alyssa Adcock, Caleb Adcock and Sarah Beth Adcock as well as 15 great grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was one of the best neighbors I ever had. So and Bob both were very special to me an Don both.she will be missed. My prayers are with all the family.
I am so sorry for your loss. We will keep you all in our prayers and be thinking of you during this difficult time.
To all of the family especially Rev. Adam Guice, my prayers are with you, God comfort each of you as we can stand with Jesus who is with us always. Shirley loved life, now more alive than ever for she knew Jesus. Her sister Lucille Sherlin Rogers was my mother’s best friend. I grew up with this family member all of my life, was blessed to have loved them both. I shall see them both again soon. Amen
Shirley was such a kind sweet person who I grew up with. She never saw a stranger, loved her family and friends. She will be so missed by all who knew her. May God bless and be with you all during this sad time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
So sorry for your loss. Prayers for you and your family to find strength in the difficult days ahead.
Shirley was never without a smile…especially with the ones she loved, and that was just about everyone. She was a dear friend to my mother, and they spent many hours praying together, serving together, laughing together…and just doing life. They would travel to the beach where they would spend the day walking on the shore and tanning with that “special” oil that produced the best tan! After the sun went down it was canasta and just having fun. She was the eternal optimist and laughter was her language.
She was that sweet lady who accepted the children of her friends as if they were her own, and she made our days sweeter with kind words of encouragement, notes on special occasions and prayers that carried us along. I am so glad to have dear memories of Shirley Guice. I know she is smiling in heaven today!
Hugs to Mr. Bob and the rest of the Guice family.
