Shirley King Gossett Roberts, 83, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Shirley was born January 2, 1938, in Buncombe County to the late Charlie E. and Virgie Ball King. She and her late husband, Wayne D. Gossett (2011) founded Gossett’s Grocery on Leicester Highway. She was also preceded in death by her brother, E.J. King; an infant sister; and her son-in-law, Ellison Worley.

Mrs. Roberts was a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church.

She is survived by her current husband, Harold Roberts; a daughter, Kelly Worley; son, Dwayne Gossett; grandchildren, D.J. Gossett, Lindsay Gossett Grover (Daniel) and Jonathon Worley; and brothers, Charles King (Margaret) and Gerald King (Karon).

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, November 28, at Trinity Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ralph Sexton and Pastor Allen Rash officiating. The service will be livestreamed at tbc.live. Burial will follow at Big Sandy United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hearts with Hands, P.O. Box 6444, Asheville, NC 28816, or to the Salvation Army, 750 Haywood Rd., Asheville, NC 28806.
