Asheville – Shirley Kay Andrews, 73, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2022 at CarePartners Solace Center.

A native of McDowell County, she was a daughter of the late Wayne and Eula Mae Poteat Randolph.

Shirley was a loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, nana, aunt, cousin and friend. She was both the rock and soft place for so many. She had a heart large enough to carry and bear, while rejoicing with praise to the God she trusted in and served. She loved fiercely, and so, was fiercely loved.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Jon Harding Andrews; a daughter, Joy Arthur (Jeremy) of Arden; a son, Jonathan Andrews (Dean Fitzpatrick) of Marietta, GA; four sisters, Pat Lunsford of Candler, Libby Waldrup of Asheville, Sarah Ramsey of Knoxville, TN and Waynett/Becky Watkins of Candler; two grandchildren, Joanna Arthur and Jesse Arthur as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Reverend Chuck Waldrup officiating.

In lieu of flowers and in Shirley’s memory, the family asks that you show a random act of kindness towards someone in need or less fortunate.

  1. I loved Shirley and will always cherish the years we worked together! She was such a blessing to know! Hugs to all family members! You have lost a precious one but we know she’s in the loving arms of her Savior and we’ll see her again soon!

  5. Shirley will always be remembered with fondness. She was so much fun when we were growing up. She could always make a good time better. We haven’t been close in years but the last time I saw her I will never forget how she hugged me. She was a true friend from my past. My prayers are extended to her family as they face their loss.

Shirley was like my sister I never had when we were young/ we went to church together and spent many hours at each others house along with Bunny Sams I loved her all my life and know what a special lady she always was Heaven has a new angel singing with her mom and dad who were my second parents I want Jon Joy and Jonathan to know you are in my prayers but remember she is in Heaven the most wonderful reward she can have I loved her with all my heart and can’t wait to talk with her again when my time here is finished just be ready to go when Jesus calls you all home peace be with you all

  8. Shirley always let you know when you were around her that she loved and cared for you. And when Shirley hugged you it was the best hug ever! She always made me laugh too!! Shirley will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her. We pray blessings on the family for strength and comfort today and in the days that follow.
