Shirley Louise (Stepp) Pittillo, 74, of Fletcher, died Tuesday, August 10, 2021 in her residence with her family by her side.

Born in Haywood County, she was the wife of Danny Pittillo of Fletcher, and the daughter of the late Burgin and Blanche (Waldrop) Stepp. She was also preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

She enjoyed being a homemaker and loved her family deeply. She will be missed by those whose lives she touched.

In addition to her husband of more than 50 years, she is survived by a son, Everett Pittillo of Black Mountain; a daughter, Becky Maxwell (John) of Asheville; six grandchildren: Sydney Louise Pittillo, Annabella Rose Pittillo, Daniel Joseph Pittillo, Dana Maxwell Paez, Leslie Maxwell, and Aaron Maxwell; four great-grandchildren: Thomas, Eleanor, Rileigh, and Lilly; one brother, Gary Burgin Stepp; one sister, Cathey Mortier; and a special daughter-in-law, Michelle Nelson.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Rev. Carl Stepp officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany Cemetery. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  2. Nobody can understand the hurt Danny is going thru, unless you have been in his shoes, We will all love an miss her.

  3. Cookie, as we knew her, was like a second mother to me and the most beautiful friend I’ve ever known. She was extremely special to my husband and I and she will be very missed. The only comfort I can find is knowing she flies with the angels now and has no more pain. I will always love you!
