Shirley Nash Penland, 77, of Candler, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013.
A native of Buncombe Co., she was a daughter of the late Paul and Bertha Price Nash. She was also preceded in death by a son, Kevin Penland.
Mrs. Penland is survived by her husband, Blake Penland, Jr.; daughters Rena Simmons and husband Gene of TN, Darlene Henson and husband Dale of Candler, and Lia Banks and Drew Freiberger of Candler; son Tracy Penland and wife Sheila of Candler; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Reva Getins and husband Carl of Gastonia, and Dorothy Smith of Candler; and brother Paul A. Nash of Detroit.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
Her family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Shirley was a very sweet person and will be missed. I will cherish the memories I have of Shirley. I know her family and friends will miss her deeply. We will keep her family in our prayers.
