Silas Fortner

Mr. Fortner was born in Madison County, the son of the late James and Hester Caldwell Fortner. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Liege, Paul, Calvin and Plumer Fortner. He was a retired furniture manufacturer and a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Hattie “Attie” Worley Fortner; a daughter and two sons, Lula Brown, Monroe Fortner and Glenn Fortner, all of Fairview; one sister, Lillie Mae Davis of Weaverville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Revs. Jeff Wilkie and Charles Rogers. Burial will follow in Tweed’s Chapel Cemetery.
His family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Monday at the funeral home on Long Shoals Road.
