SSgt. Billy Carver, Sr., 73, passed away Friday, March 4, 2022.
He was born in Asheville November 7, 1948, to Edward Carver and Nellie Mae Stone Carver Singleton.
In 1967 he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Vietnam war. He was a decorated soldier as a rifleman assigned to the First Battalion, 12th Regiment, First Cavalry. He was awarded the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, as well as the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He also served in the Army reserve with the 391st Engineers for numerous years.
At the time of his passing he was employed as a maintenance engineer at the Harrah’s Civic Center in Asheville.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Beeman Carver and numerous brothers and sisters.
He is survived by sisters, Shirley Fender and Dorothy Banks of Candler and Linda Israel of Asheville; four sons and a daughter, Billy Carver, Jr. and wife Irma of Candler, Jason Carver of Candler, Chris Carver and wife Jennifer of Candler Josh Carver and wife Michelle of Leicester, and Amber Downs and husband William of Asheville; grandchildren, Christopher, Jasmin, Haley, Jordan, Kaitlyn, Emily, Colton, Hunter, Jon and Bryan and great-grandchildren Zayne and Corbin.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Monday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
A graveside service with military honors will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (WoundedWarriorProject.org) or to St. Jude Hospital (StJude.org).

So sorry to hear about Billy! Our family grew up with the Carvers! Always remember Billy whisteling going to the school bus! I remembering him always smiling. May God comfort you all in this sad time!

To Shirley and the rest of Billy’s family. We will always remember Billy whistling and always being so cheerful when we was growing up and walking to the school bus with him. He was truly a good person. Our thanks to him for his service to our country.
