Stanley Ward McIntosh, 98, passed away peacefully November 21, 2011, at Mars Hill Retirement Community. A native of Yancey County and resident of Asheville, he was the only child of the late Silas Willard McIntosh and Kitty Hensley McIntosh. He graduated from Lee Edwards in 1930 and Asheville Biltmore College in 1932 where he studied drafting, art, business and architecture. He was a talented artist and draftsman and used these skills while he worked in Washington, D.C. with the National Geological Survey Center. One of his major projects was to survey and design the layout of the Washington National Airport. He also had careers in real estate, farming, and raising cattle. He loved photography and art sketching which he enjoyed as hobbies. He was a devoted and caring son and will be missed for his keen memory of family history and events. The service will be officiated by Dr. Joe Renfro at 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 26, 2011, in the Patton Ave. chapel of Groce Funeral Home. Viewing will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Green Hills Cemetery. Memorials may be made to CarePartners Hospice Memorial Fund-Home Care, P.O. Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813.

  3. Ward and his father were very good neighbors all my life. Our familes were good friends. I worked for Ward on the farm, usually putting up hay. He will be missed in the neighborhood. To the family, I am very sorry for your loss.
