Stephen Lloyd Kolb, much loved Husband, Father, and Grandfather passed away suddenly at home on February 1, 2022. He was born on July 22, 1948 in Champaign, Illinois to the late Dr. Harold J. Kolb and Mary Louise Achepohl Kolb of St. Joseph, Illinois. His father, Dr. Kolb was a Family Practice Physician and former Mayor of St. Joseph, Illinois. His mother, Mrs. Kolb was a Librarian and active on the St. Joseph – Ogden School Board.
He is survived by his wife Lois Bankowski Kolb who he married on February 17, 1974. His sons; Michael J. Kolb (Kelly), Eric A. Kolb (Shannen); a daughter, Sarah E. Kolb Bell. Three grandchildren; Catherine Kolb, Chelsea Bell and Sebastian Kolb. He is also survived by a brother; David Kolb of Old Bridge, NJ and Sisters-in-law; Linda Tanella and Diane Lewis both of Schenectady, NY.
He was a graduate of St. Joseph – Ogden High School and the University of Illinois in Champaign – Urbana, Illinois with a B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Employed by General Electric for over 35 years as a Field Engineer and Regional Manager of the Omaha, Nebraska Office. The Illinois Regional Office and the Syracuse, NY Office in Liverpool, NY.
Stephen worked past his retirement with GE as a Start-Up Engineer as a GE Retired re-hire and scheduler, through his own LTD Company, Mountain View Technical Services and for other Engineering Consultation Service providers until December 31, 2021.
Stephen was a Cubmaster and then Scoutmaster of a Boy Scout Troop in North Syracuse, NY of which his sons were scouts (both Eagle Scouts). He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity both in Syracuse, NY and Asheville, NC.
Stephen was a Patron both of Habitat for Humanity and the Manna Food Bank in Asheville, NC.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.

I have many fond memories of Doc & Mrs. Kolb, David & Stephen throughout the years; Steve and I went to school together, all 12 years, in St. Joseph and our families were good friends.
