Stephen Roy Roberts, 67, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, at the CarePartners Solace Center.

A native of Murphy, NC, Stephen was the son of the late Forrest and Betty Belle Thompson Roberts. Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife, Sue Ann Allison Roberts; daughters, Michelle and Ashley; son, Stephen; grandchildren, Daniel and Skye; sisters, Phyllis Marshall, Jackie Bell, and Sandra Kalis; and brother, Ken Roberts.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday at the Groce Funeral Home chapel on Patton Ave. Attendance is limited to 50 individuals and a mask/face covering is required. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of a formal visitation, Mr. Roberts will lie in repose at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for those who wish to pay their respects.

Sue Ann I am so sorry for your loss it’s been a long time since we have seen each other however I think of you often I am so sorry I too lost my husband my heart is with you and I pray for you and your family I am so looking forward to the other side I have more friends there than I do here won’t it be great when we are all together again I cannot wait!!!

  5. I can’t believe I’m writing this. I grew up with Steve and knew his whole family. I remember the good times we all had growing up. His parents & mine were good friends . I remember many times with Steve and Sue Ann. We had some good times that I will never forget. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
    As my brother posted above…one last time….”Boo”….rest peacefully til we all meet in Heaven.

  6. I am heartbroken for Steve’s passing. We had such a good time growing up our family and your family. During that time we were more like siblings than first cousins!   9. Sorry to hear about Steve, I was just talking with him at Ingle’s market not long ago and he was always a delight to talk with about old days of growing up. I know he was ready to meet his Heavenly Father and now he is made whole again and pain free. Rest In Peace my friend will see you on the other side.   11. I am so sorry to hear about Stephen. We spent many visits with Steve, Phyllis, Jackie, Sandra and Kenny along with the Cody family when we were all young! Some of my favorite times from my youth were visiting Asheville with Ann, Clyde, Betty, Forrest and our cousins! Thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends! Love and hugs to all of you!!

    • Hey Jack, I worked a Bells for over 3 years while going to school. I actually got Steve a job there. We all had some good times there.

When I moved over into the neighborhood, Kenny and Steve were the first neighbors i met, and did we ever end up getting close and had many good times that I’ll never forget! They took me in like one of the family. Once again, so sorry for the loss. Rest in peace, I’ll never forget you Boo..🙏

  13. I like that picture of Steve, that’s the way I always picture him. He always looked like he was up to something, but it was never in a mean way. I have so many fond memories growing up together in the neighborhood. Working on model cars in the basement, rolling them down the big hill, working on cars. Steve and Ken helped shape who i am today. I’ll keep your whole family in my prayers. Rest easy Boo!
