Born in: Asheville, NC
Resided in: Weaverville, NC

In loving memory of Steven Robert Johnson, who passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022.

Steve was born in Asheville to the late Jasper and Patricia Dixon Johnson.

Steve was a simple man who cared deeply for his wife, family and friends. He was an observant man, with a well-timed sense of humor. While his primary love was his wife, his passion was for trading antiques. Many would say he was “the best picker in town.” He was trusted and respected by many. He willingly shared his wisdom and experience to help others along the way. He will surely be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Kilpatrick Johnson; a son, Jonathan Johnson (Jenna); two step sons, Ryan Barnett (Samantha) and Joshua Barnett (Amber); two brothers, David Johnson and Mike Johnson (Janet) and four grandchildren, Crew and Barrett Johnson and Titus and Ayla Barnett.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at 10:00 am at Tweed’s Chapel Cemetery off Cane Creek Road in Fletcher.

A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date.

  7. Steve you will be missed by many. Always had a big smile and nice words to say. It was a privilege to know you.

  8. I remember when Steve first started dating my aunt. I thought, “I don’t know about this.” You see, she was like my second mama so I felt a bit protective. Plus, she cared for my mamaw so who was going to care for her with this new guy around? Little did I know, Steve had already loved her for years, knew her story and willingly would support her through it. He patiently dated Wanda with my mamaw in tow. He cared for my mamaw, showed patience with her, always made her feel safe and even spent an entire day driving to the beach and back just because she said she wanted to see the ocean. That was when I said, “Ok. He’s fine by me.” In the years to come, he would continue to show that same support, love and care to Wanda. He never minded our girls trips. He always approached every situation with a smile. His jovial personality always made the room feel a little lighter and warmer. While I wish I had known Steve better, I will forever remember him with a warm heart. Wanda, I love you more than you’ll ever know. I am thankful for the many years you spent with this wonderful man. We will cherish his memory. I’m here for anything you need.

    Amanda

  12. I am saddened at this news and share in the loss of Steve. I spend many hours with Steve at the antique mall on Sunday afternoons. His keen sense of humor, passion and knowledge of antiques, his love for his family and friends, views on the world … all made great conversations and was something I looked forward to on Sunday afternoons. I will miss Steve and count my life all the richer for knowing him. My condolences to the Johnson family.

  13. It was a privilege and an honor to work with Steve on Sunday afternoons. A gentleman who loved his family and friends. He will be missed!

  14. My husband, Steve Woody and I met your Steve when we all had a booth at Bryant’s Antiques. We came back when it transitioned to Altamont Vintage. We would run into him at the flea market on weekends. We all had a long talk there the Saturday before he died. It was the longest time we had ever spent together. He looked so happy and as always, was smiling and joking around. We send his family our sincere sympathy. He will be missed!

  18. I am still in shock at the loss of Steve. He was one of the greatest men I have ever known. He was a man of many talents and a golden heart for anyone that was in need of anything. To the remaining family I pray that God will give you comfort during this time of loss. All one can say is that Heaven needed another angel and gained a real one. Wanda he loved you unconditionally and Jonathan and family the same. Our prayers will be with all of you today during the service.

  19. To the family of Steve Johnson: I am so sad to hear of his passing, and share your grief. I met Steve and his son a few years ago, and always looked forward to talking with him. His humor, and knowledge were always warmly welcomed!
