Stuart and his late wife, the former Margaret Powell of Macon, Georgia, moved to Asheville in 1969 and enjoyed life here until her death in 1995. He was happily married to Judy Carver since 1996 and is survived by her and also by his son, James Lewis and his family of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his daughter, Nancy O’Leary and her family of North Sutton, New Hampshire; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was former president of the Asheville Downtown City Club and the Mountain City Club; board member of the Asheville Art Museum and the Asheville Symphony. He was a member of the Biltmore Forest Country Club where he was active in tennis, golf and bridge. Although not a great athlete, he realized that the best way to win was to have a great partner. He enjoyed winning Senior Tennis trophies with Charlie Waddell, David Morgan and Billy Coxe and won Golf Member/Member tournaments with Bill Howland, Bill Adams and Pokey Coleman.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M Tuesday in the chapel of Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian conducted by the Rev. Rob Blackburn. Following the memorial service, a celebration of Stuart’s life will be held at the Crowfield Condominium Clubhouse.

Judy,
Sorry about Stuart. If there is anything that Ginny and I can do PLEASE let us know.
As Ginny and I are not great athletes or for that matter we have never been accused of being athletes, I hope that you will still be willing to partner with us for fun or a tournament at any time.
No I did not know Stuart but I wish I had because from what I am hearing he had the same philosophy on life that I have. And that is enjoy it to the fullest because tomorrow may never arrive.
Love you Judy.

Joanne and I want you to know that although we did not personally know Stuart, we feel like we have known him through Jeannie and Jim. From what they have shared with us, it is very obvious that you loved each other very much and we know that you will miss him terribly. We pray that you will find strength in the coming days in God, your family and friends.
