Suellyn Rush Campbell

Suellyn Rush Campbell, 57, of 2195 New Leicester Highway died Friday, August 28, 2009, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospital. Mrs. Campbell was born in Barnesville, OH, and was the adopted daughter of the late Virgil and Marjorie Folger Rush. In her secular career, Suellyn worked for Lowes Home Improvement Center in North Carolina for seven years before beginning her career as a United Methodist missionary to the Blackfeet Indians in Browning, Montana. While there, she and her husband, the Rev. Jody B. Campbell hosted various mission teams over the course of eight years. The friendships made through their missionary work returned the blessings to them when, following Suellyn's stroke and physical condition made it impossible for her to endure the harsh Montana winters, their nationwide extended family and network of friends raised more than $24, 000 to make it possible for the family to return to North Carolina. It was while en route to NC and an assignment with the WNC Conference to Grace United Methodist Church and Dix Creek UMC Charge, Leicester, for Rev. Campbell, that on June 22, an automobile accident caused injuries that ultimately led to her passing Friday in Asheville. Suellyn was a loving, generous, giving, and compassionate wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a sister to thousands of people whose lives she enriched. She had the ability to make others feel comfortable both with themselves and with her. She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Jody B, Campbell; one daughters, Faith Ellyn Marcellis and her husband, Shawn; two sons, William Adelsperger and James Kasler; and seven grandchildren, Brandy Ellyn Riley, Jessica Philyah, Bethany Philyah, J.B. Timothy Riley, Hunter Kasler, Tae-Shawn Adelsperger and Shawn-Tae Adelsperger. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday at Christ Boulevard United Methodist Church, Statesville, with the Rev. Jim Reeves officiating, and at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, Leicester, with the Rev. Dr. John S. Boggs officiating. Luncheons will precede each service at noon. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, c/o 2195 New Leicester Highway, Asheville, NC 28806. Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue is assisting with the arrangements.

  19. Dear Jody, It was just recently that I learned of the passing of your beloved wife I will always recall with joy that one summer when we were all together. Suellyn was a gentle spirt with a kind and loving heart. I know that like yourself she was truly dedicated to improving the quality of life for her brothers and sisters who lived on the reservation. She was loved by all came into her presence. She will be missed by many and i will truly be among that number.
