Susan Lee Austin Phillips 61, of 11 Rhododendron Place, Asheville, died unexpectedly Tuesday, July 9, 2002, in an Asheville hospital after a brief illness. Susan was an Asheville native and was a daughter of Mary Wilder Austin of Asheville and the late Frank Austin. She was an employee of T.J. Maxx and a member of Beverly Hills Baptist Church. In addition to her mother she is survived by her husband, Ronnie Denton Phillips; two daughters, Dawn Holmberg and husband Dean of Asheville and Carrie O’Brien and husband Tim of Hendersonville; two step-daughters, Angela Wyatt and husband Tison of Candler and Kara Shea and husband Matt of Asheville; one step-son, Denny Phillips of Candler; one brother, Michael Frank Austin of Asheville; three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 12:00 noon Friday in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Melton officiating. Burial will follow in the veterans cemetery. Her family will receive friends 7:00-8:30 Thursday at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Avenue.
