Born in:
Los Angeles, CA
Resided in:

Susan Holden, 76, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2022. A native of Los Angeles, CA, Susan was the oldest daughter of the late Welter “Budd” and Gloria Wolff Holden.
After graduating from Stanford University, Susan worked for a few years at the William Morris Agency in Beverly Hills.
She loved to travel, got certified as a travel agent, and went to work at Gilner International Travels in Beverly Hills, eventually buying the business which she ran successfully for at least 35 years. One of her many specialties was organizing and leading tours for art museums and art lovers. Although she closed Gilner in 2006, she continued working full-time as a travel agent with Protravel International.
Family was very important to her, so in 2008, she moved to Asheville, NC, to be closer to her sister, Sandra.
She had a deep passion for art, theater, dance, good food and animal rescue. She was an avid and eclectic art collector, a patron of the Asheville Art Museum, the Diana Wortham Center for Performing Arts, Asheville Humane Society and numerous local artists.
Kind, loving, and generous to a fault, Susan leaves behind her sister, Sandra Holden and her vast network of colleagues and friends from coast-to-coast with whom she enjoyed working, dining, entertaining, and traveling.

I was so sorry to hear of Susan’s passing. She was my mentor and friend and will always remember our times together and shopping with her & Mom and them buying me a really good coat!!! Peter and I had some wonderful times going to dinner and we laughed a lot. May she rest in peace. Always remembered by me. May your memories bring a smile always Sandra.
Susan planned my trips for the last 25 years +! Always the most insightful for all our travel needs! She would plan not be certain places on particular days/or to be some place on a particular day! Would select the best private room in Rome with the only balcony! Or the fabulous corner room in Venice…the list is endless. Our last trip she organized in April 2022(Nice, Naples, Sicily for the month)was SO complicated because of Covid…she pulled it off without a hitch. My travel memories will always include Susan, past and future. She will be dearly missed!

Sandra, we are happy that you were able to bring Susan to the Preview Party at The Wortham Center in July – that was the last time we saw her. Our sympathy to you~
I was fortunate to purchase one of her pieces of art. She must have been an extremely tasteful person
with an intense spirit.
Susan, i didn’t Even know that you had died. It was only when I was watching the news tonight and and they reported the great flooding in Asheville that I realized how long it had been that we hadn’t communicated. I hope all is calm for you now. I loved the years we spent with my tour to London and our wonderful meetings always over a meal or a drink to discuss what was gonna happen next year. I hope wherever you are, you are OK and I am sending you love, very late but love nonetheless. Barbara
