Susie Lewis Ledford, 97, of Mills River and formerly of Swannanoa, passed away at the Elizabeth House on Sunday, June 14, 2015. She was a member of the Church of God for over 70 years. She retired from Beacon Manufacturing Company. Susie was the oldest living member of her family and was loved by all. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and sister. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Dozie Jones Lewis; her former husband, friend and father of her children, Alvin Ledford; sons Gene Ledford and Roger Ledford; infant grandson, Jon Ledford; sister, Clara Lewis Hess and brothers, Roy Lewis, Earl Lewis, Bill Lewis and Johnny Lewis. Survivors include her children, Reverend Charles (Deborah) Ledford of Simpsonville, SC and Linda (Darrell) Walker of Fletcher; step-son, Wayne (Geraldine) Hensley of Candler; grandchildren, Michael (Karen) Ledford of Black Mountain, Erek Ledford of Asheville, Mandy (Bobby) Moody of Hendersonville, Aaron (Hillary Giles) Ledford of Asheville and Shelly Ledford of Fairview; great-grandchildren, Bailey Ledford, Alexandra Ledford, Aidan Moody, Tatum Ledford and Landon Ledford; sister, Rebecca Lewis Watkins of Cleveland, TN; brothers, Troy (Valerie) Lewis and Joe (Magda) Lewis, all of Swannanoa; as well as several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Biltmore Church of God, 1390 Sweeten Creek Road, with Reverend Sam Crisp and Reverend Dale Whitson officiating. Interment will follow at Sky View Memorial Park with Erek Ledford, Aaron Ledford, Bobby Moody, Mike Watkins, Paul Cretton and Matthew Hensley serving as pallbearers. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the church. Her children wish to extend a special thank you to the staff of The Lodge at Mills River and all those at Elizabeth House for the love you showed our mother while she was in your care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion For Life, 571 South Allen Rd, Flat Rock, NC 28731 or to Biltmore Church Of God, 1390 Sweeten Creek Road, Asheville, NC 28803. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.
