Terry Lee Miller, 72, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2022, at his home with his wife and son by his side.

Terry was born July 27, 1950, in Asheville to the late Robert L. and Juanita Jackson Miller. Terry always put those he loved before himself. He believed in hard work, doing right by others, and was dedicated to providing for his family. Never one to mince words, he spoke truth and gave an honest opinion when necessary. He found joy in simple things such as a day of fishing, a Sunday afternoon car race, or the company of one of his many loyal pets he cared for through the years. Later in life spending time with his grandchildren would become his greatest admiration.

He devoted the majority of his adult life to his career in law enforcement, having worked with both the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Department and the Asheville Police Department in the 1970s, and the Asheville Airport Public Safety Office from 1983 to 2005, from which he retired. He then worked with the NC Arboretum Public Safety office before retiring a second time in 2015. Most recently he served as a reserve officer for the Woodfin Police Department until 2019. Additionally, he was an active member of the local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge in Asheville.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Frost Miller; son, Matthew Miller (Rebecca); daughters, Shawn Yarnes (Chris), Kimberly Wade (Michael) and Penny Nobles; brother Robert D. “Bob” Miller (Terri); grandchildren Clayton and Jackson Miller, Finnegan and Harrison Yarnes, and Madison and Isaac Wade.

He was a member of Oak Hill United Methodist Church.

The funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 14 at Oak Hill United Methodist Church with Pastors Heath Davis and Glenda D. Hayner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fraternal Order of Police, Asheville Lodge #1, or to the Oak Hill Church Cemetery Fund.
