Thomas A. "Shakey" Teeple, 79, of 262 Hi Alta Avenue, Asheville, died Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at his residence. A native of Pontiac, MI, he was a son of the late Harry D. and Audrey Green Teeple. He was also preceded in death by three sons, James Dobbs, Thomas Allen Teeple, Jr and Harry D. Teeple; two sisters, Margaret Fisher and Barbara Moreland and a brother, Robert Teeple. A US Navy and Army veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict, Mr. Teeple was owner/operator of Shakey's Bar and had worked for Pullman Standard. He was a member of VFW Post #891. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Helen Hart Teeple; two daughters, Carolyn Pauly and husband Rick of Charlottesville, VA and Susan Teeple of Asheville; grandchildren, China and Santana Gomez; great-grandchildren, Marley, Taj and Lennon and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Friday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Higgins officiating. Graveside military rites will be performed by the Buncombe County Memorial Veterans Council at Ashelawn Gardens. His family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday at the funeral home and request that memorials be made to the National Veterans Foundation, 9841 Airport Blvd., Suite 512, Los Angeles, CA 90045.
