Asheville - Thomas Colson Newman, 68, of Abby Circle, died Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at his residence. A native of Gainesville, Georgia, he was the son of the late Frank Ivey Newman and Ada Colson Newman. A University of Georgia graduate with a B.S. in Business and Economics, Mr. Newman retired after 25 years of service in 1997 from Hedrick Industries as the personnel and safety director. He is survived by his longtime love and companion, Ann McLeod of Asheville; two daughters, Lee Newman Brown, and her husband Mal, of Arden, Frances Newman Jaynes, and her husband David, of Warrenton, Virginia; three grandchildren, Lindsey Jane Brown, Colson David Jaynes and Ivy Lee Jaynes; one sister, Carol Newman McKibben, and her husband Mark, of Chatsworth, California; one nephew, Rett Hicks; one niece, Stephanie McKibben and one great niece, Lauren Hicks. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 PM, at the Jubilee Community Church, 46 Wall Street in Asheville conducted by the Rev. Howard Hanger. His family will receive friends following the service at Jubilee. Memorials may be made to the Asheville Center of Performing Arts, 193 Charlotte St., Asheville, NC 28801.

  4. Lee, Lindsey, Mal and Ann and all of Tom’s family,
    It was a privilege for me to be able to sing at the service this past Sunday in honor of Tom. It was indeed a unique celebration and I hope you found it comforting to hear his friends and family speak so kindly of him. Although I had not know him very long, I found myself being able to agree with everything that was said about him. You are all very fortunate to have had someone who so wonderfully left you with ‘Precious Memories’. My prayers are with you now and in the coming days.
