Thomas Earl James
March 9, 1955 ~ August 18, 2001

A native of Buncombe County, he was the husband of Donna Baker James of Albany, GA. He was the son of George Earl James of Arden and the late Margaret Presley James. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church and a former deputy with the Buncombe County Sheriff's Dept. He was a former member of the Skyland Volunteer Fire Dept. and was a member of the N.C. Retired Law Enforcement Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father; his step-mother, Thelma James; his brother, Tony James of Manassas, VA and a step-sister, Irma Grimm of Frederick, MD.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Calvary Episcopal Church with the Rev. Victor C. Mansfield officiating. Interment will follow in the churchyard. A joint honor guard will be provided by the Buncombe County Sheriff's Dept. and the Buncombe County Fire Dept.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road.
Memorials may be made to one's local Humane Society.

So glad to have shared your joy and the good times. Wish we could be there tonight for the visitation and tomorrow for the service. Looking forward to seeing you in Burlington on Saturday or Sunday. Our special love to you and our genuine sympathy to Tommy’s family as well.

We were shocked and saddened to hear of Tommy’s passing. He was a source of strength and stability here in Lowndesville, and will be greatly missed.

I was shocked to hear of the passing of your husband. I’m so very sorry — my heart goes out to you. It has been years since I’ve seen you, but I have so many fond memories of you and the fun we had together in Burlington. I’m sorry I never met Tommy.
