Thomas Glenn Cox, Sr., 74, died Thursday, January 22, 2004, at his home on Bailey Road, Candler.
Mr. Cox was a native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County and was the son of the late Robert B. and Mary Parham Cox. He was also preceded in death by a son, Alex Don Cox who died January 31, 1976.
He served during the Korean Conflict with the United States Navy before being discharged with the rank of Boatswain’s Mate 3rd Class in 1952. He had served on the USS Shelton DD 790 and received the Navy Occupational Medal for United Nations Service, the China Service Medal, and the Korean Service Ribbon with one star.
He was retired from Champion Supply Company after many years of service.
Surviving are his son, Thomas G. Cox, Jr. and his wife Jo Mace Cox of Marion; two daughters, Mary Cox Roper and her husband Colby Roper of Candler and Loretta Cox Hutchinson and her husband Burt W. Hutchinson of Leicester; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way; one brother Billy Cox of Leicester; and one sister Lucy Kuykendall of Weaverville. He is also survived by his children’s mother Helen Faye Cox of Leicester and a very special sister-in-law Myrtle Cox of Leicester.
The funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. John Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah View Memorial Park.
His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
