Thomas Harmon “Tommy” Rogers, Jr., 72, of Candler, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at his home.
Thomas was born in Asheville, NC, on March 12, 1951, to the late Tulon Warren Rogers and Thomas Harmon “Red” Rogers. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Rogers.
He graduated from Enka High School, where he was an avid basketball player, in 1969 and continued on to receive his degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 1973. He married his wife Sharon Rogers on June 17, 1991, and had a long and successful career as an insurance adjuster at State Farm. In retirement, he enjoyed playing golf with friends and spending time with his family, especially his grandsons. Thomas truly enjoyed talking to people and never turned down the opportunity for a conversation. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, neighbors and all who knew him. He was also a member of Hominy Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sharon Rogers; his daughter, Emily Harvey (Tom), of Wilmington, NC; his son, Kyle Rogers (Jelonna), of Hendersonville, NC; his stepsons, Jason Waldrop (Connie), of Washington, D.C., and Jeremy Waldrop, of Candler, NC; his sister, Jennifer Robertson (George), of Raleigh, NC; his sister-in-law, Robin Wise, of Candler; and his grandsons, Caleb and Jacob Waldrop, and Noah Rogers and Parker Harvey.
The memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, at Groce Funeral Home on Patton Ave, with the Rev. Dr. Joe Yelton officiating. The service also will be livestreamed on this page. The visitation for friends and family at the funeral home will follow that service.
His family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to everyone at CarePartners Home Health and Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the WNC Bridge Foundation, 294 Overlook Rd., Asheville, NC 28803. The foundation is a community-based charitable organization that works to provide funds to support and assist in meeting the many health challenges that face the people of WNC.

Ruthie & I were so sorry to hear of Tommy’s passing. The Rogers family were such good neighbors. Our family’s were very close friends. I feel truly blessed to have grown up beside this family. Keeping all of the family in our thoughts and prayers.
