Arden ~ Thomas Herbert Bonham, 75, of Bonham Road, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at his residence. A native of Buncombe County, Mr. Bonham was the son of the late Delano Elkins and Cecil H. Bonham. Mr. Bonham was a 1947 graduate of Valley Springs High School. He was a dairy farmer of 53 years. He helped to organize Averys Creek Community Club where he was on the board of trustees. Mr. Bonham was a supervisor of the Buncombe County Soil and Water Conservation for 35 years. He served as the president of the NC Soil and Water Conservation in 1965. He also served on the NC Soil and Water Conservation Commission. He was active in various other agricultural organizations. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Nancy Queen Bonham; a daughter, Lynn Carland and her husband, Tony of Arden; a sister, Mary Williams of Asheville; an aunt, Louise B. Brooks of Asheville; two nieces, Venise Williams of Asheville and Delania Hyatt of Fair Play, SC; a nephew, Brad Queen of Pensacola, FL and several great nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Green Hills Cemetery with Rev. Roger Rearden officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to Mountain Area Hospice, PO Box 25338, Asheville, NC 28813 or to Long Shoals Baptist Church, 661 Long Shoals Road, Arden, NC 28704. Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian is assisting the family.

  9. Larry shared memories of years ago when he worked for Blue Ridge Tractor and came out to the Bonham farm to repair equipment and how much he enjoyed visiting with Tom and Nancy. I will always remember Tom’s sincere love of the land and his gentle way of looking at things.
