Thomas Robert Snyder, 79, of Weaverville, died Friday, March 25, 2016 at his residence.
Born in Long Branch, NJ to the late Earl and Louise Brooks Snyder, he retired as supervisor at Microswitch Manufacturing Company, was a four-year veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Navy with the Naval Air Development Unit. He was a member of the Basilica of St.Lawrence Catholic Church. He loved spending time outdoors enjoying the animals and birds, working with wood and tending his garden.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years, Theresa Gloria Petryk Snyder; six sons, Alexander Joseph Snyder (Elizabeth)of Weaverville, John Michael Snyder (Rianne) of Clinton, TN, Steven Snyder (Audrey) of Leicester, Thomas William Snyder (Beverly) of Swannanoa, Stanley Bencivenga (Kelly) of Florida and Angelo Bencivenga of Key West, FL; 14 grandchildren;10 great grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Snyder of Brick, NJ, Harry Snyder of Strasburg, PA and Gary Snyder of Nevada; one sister, Ann Mirro of Keansburg, NJ.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, March 30, at 9:30 A.M. at the Basilica of St. Lawrence, DM. Rev. Father Wilbur Thomas will officiate and burial will follow at 12:00 Noon at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
Groce Funeral Home on Tunnel Road is assisting the family.
So sorry to hear about Tom. He was a great friend and a wonderful supervisor during our days at Micro Switch. Always helpful and he tried to compliment and brag on a good day’s work those in his department. What a great sense of humor he had, and everybody just felt good being around him in that sometimes tough environment. Heaven is a little richer tonight. Praying for the family during this difficult time, but please know that we’ll see him again one day. God Bless.
I worked with Tom at Micro Switch from 1973 until he retired. He was a true gentleman in every respect and will always be remembered as such. Rest and be at peace my friend.
So sorry for your loss, your fathers was kind man and very well liked at Micro Switch. Alex is a friend and co-worker, who loved his father so much. We will keep your family in our prayers.
I am so sorry about Tom, I worked with him at Micro Switch in Mars Hill and he was a wonderful person. He always had a great humor about him. I know his family will miss him deeply. God Bless each of you.

Sorry to hear about your father, Alex, he was great guy, I will always remember him during the winter snows coming in with no jacket on, smoking that pipe and driving that VW bug. He always had a smile on his face every time I seen him at MicroSwitch, he will truly be missed.
My heart goes out to each of you as you go thru Tom’s death. I worked with him at MICRO SWITCH for many years. He was a well respected and professional coworker. He loved his family and spoke often of them. May God be with each of you.

Sorry for the loss of your family member. I met Mr. Snyder when I worked at the Golf Club many years ago. He was always kind and had an infectious smile.
