Fletcher- Thomas “Tom” R. Kilgore, 81, of Fletcher, fought the good fight with Parkinson’s and went to his eternal heavenly home surrounded by his loving wife and daughter on Sunday, July 21 at 12:55 in the afternoon.
Born in Nicholsville, VA, he was a son of the late Charles and Edith Innis Kilgore. He was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas Ralph Kilgore, II, a granddaughter, Stephanie Thomasson and a brother, James Kilgore.
Tom committed his life to his family, friends and community…as well as his four-legged companions. One of his biggest joys was what he could do for others, especially his grandchildren. Time well spent was typically Sunday family dinners. A good old thunderstorm was icing on the cake! He has left a footprint on our hearts, yet we rejoice in the day we will join him in Heaven.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Sandra Hamilton Kilgore, two daughters, Julie Farr (Wyman) of Longwood, FL and Tara Kilgore-Teets (Michael) of Fletcher; one brother, Gene Kilgore of Hiltons, VA as well as seven grandchildren, Stephen, Hannah, Charlotte, Gabriel, Grayson, Sean and Makayla.
A Celebration of Tom’s Life will be held at 12:55 PM on Sunday, August 11, 2024 at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian with Dr. Kelvin Moseley officiating. For those who are unable to attend, the service will be live-streamed. The stream will begin at 12:45 PM on Sunday and can be found just below the obituary on this page.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please do what Tom would do- pay it forward. Reach out to someone in need. Whether it’s with your money, your time or just showing a simple act of kindness to a stranger. This world we live in could certainly use more kindness.
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”
John 14:27 NLT.
