Thomas W. “Buck” Plemmons, 83, of 163 Brooks Cove Road, Candler, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at the Hospice Solace Center. Mr. Plemmons was born in Buncombe County and was a son of the late Thomas Hileman Plemmons, Sr. and the late Virgie Hawkins Plemmons. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Manilla Jones and a brother, Marshall Plemmons. An Army veteran of WW II, he entered the service in 1942, and served 36 months, traveling all over Europe. He was wounded twice, earning many medals, including two Purple Hearts and a four leaf cluster. He was a long time member of VFW Post 9939. He was retired from American Enka and was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Surviving are his devoted wife of 59 years, Ruth Green Plemmons; one daughter, Vergie Freeman and her husband, Eugene, and two sons, Michael Plemmons and his wife, Alicia, and Melvin Plemmons and his wife, Debbie, all of Candler; grandchildren, Brad Freeman, Eric Freeman and his fiancée, Shauna Conn, Martin Brault and his wife, Rhonda, Jason Brault and his fiancée, Amanda Bowman, and Angie Plemmons, all of Candler, Crystal Robinson and her husband, Jason, of Swannanoa, Sharon Wallace and Michael Warren of Candler and Daniel Warren, of Camp Lejeune, NC; four great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Orren Robinson, McKayla Wallace, and Brandon Madden; one sister, Meredith Hawkins and her husband, Larry, of Asheville; one brother, T.H. Plemmons and his wife, Catherine, of Candler; sisters-in-law, Cornelia Plemmons, Ruby Gasperson, Mary Gillen and Nell Sikorski and her husband Walt; a brother-in-law, Don Green and lots of loving family and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Patton Avenue chapel of Groce Funeral Home with the Rev. Todd Cole officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Buncombe County Veterans Council Memorial Team at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. His family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
