Enka - John Timothy Maltby, 50, of 13 Oak Street, died Saturday, September 9, 2000 in a Henderson County Hospital.

A native of Washington D.C., he was a son of Richard Elmer Maltby of Black Mountain and of the late Virginia Mary Ellen Dyer Maltby. Mr. Maltby was a member of the Mills River United Methodist Church and was a member of the original Disciple Bible Class at the church.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Gail Norris Maltby; two sons, Brett T. Maltby and Chad C. Maltby, both of Horse Shoe; three step-daughters, Dena H. Clark of West Asheville, Gena H. Banks and Jill H. Rutherford, both of Candler; six grandchildren, plus one to be born in December; a sister, Joyce Costa of Rockledge, Fla. and two brothers, Richard E. Maltby, Jr. of Bethesda, Maryland and Sidney Maltby of Pennsylvania.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm Wednesday in the Mills River United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Jock Ollis.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 pm Tuesday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian on Long Shoals Road and again following the service at the church.
